January 2025 free Social Media calendar in Australia

Each month, JMORA will post a calendar of Social Media Holidays you can harness for your social media and some ideas to replicate quickly for your business.

Social media holidays will are days typically created for the purpose of bringing people together based on shared values and cultures. These are a mix of official days, recognised by the United Nations, and also days which have gained popularity by fans.

Each month, there are also general themes you can embrace to align your content. In January you have multiple choice including Financial Wellness, National Mentoring, National Blood Donor, National Hobby, and even Dry January. :

Here are some ways you can leverage social media holidays in your marketing plan:

  1. Review the list of holidays and identify which ones are aligned to your business and organisational values.

  2. Create social media posts, stories, videos and blogs to showcase your brand alignment to the day. Consider the following:

    1. A meaningful announcement. For instance

      1. On World Trafficking Awareness Day you may make an announcement regarding a significant donation to a charity, new research or use of data and technology to protect an at risk cohort.

      2. On Martin Luther King Day your organisation might announce a national volunteer day for all employees to support and provide service to NFP organisations addressing inequality and injustice.

    2. Create a promotion: For instance:

      1. On Mind Body Wellness Day, a restaurant may promote a special deal on a Green Goddess Salad or Anti Inflammatory Juice

      2. On World Spaghetti Day, a restaurant may offer special dishes and prices for spaghetti. A winery might promote a selection of wines that are best paired with a curated list of popular spaghetti dishes. A homeware company might offer a promotion on kitchen accessories.

      3. On Dress up your Pet Day, a pet shop may run a promotion on pet accessories. A charity supporting rescue pets might launch an annual calendar with photos of rescue pets dressed up in cute accessories, with proceeds going to support their cause.

    3. For monthly themes, write a daily tips.

      1. For instance in January, for Financial Wellness, a Financial Planner may share a daily tip on things to do in January to improve your financial position for the year. Thereby associating your brand to the theme and increasing organic traffic.

  3. Ensure your social posts leverage the official hash tag. You can find these using a basic google search.

  4. Run an event:

    1. For instance on National Trivia Day, a pub might run a themed trivia night or a charity may run a trivia fundraising evening themed to their cause

    2. On Get to Know your Customer Day., a business might run an "Open House" day inviting customers to come in and meet the product and engineering team and share their feedback on the products they use or want to use or a CRM company might run training sessions for the day on how to use CRM to get to know your customer using their technology.

  5. Newsjack: Find stories on the day running in your local paper and over social media, which has high traffic and interest, and reshare to your social media with your opinion. Incorporate any specific promotional offers or announcements from your business for additional credibility.

    1. For instance, on National Privacy Day. you are likely to see media on legislation and government initiatives to improve your data privacy. This is a great opportunity to share how your organisation is performing to data protection and data privacy. A security technology company would want to ensure key journalists know their experts and spokespeople, and any compelling and unique points of view they could share in anticipation of the day.

As a summary, there are two things to remember

  1. It is essential the days you select are aligned and relevant

  2. Your content must incorporate a meaningful personalised announcement or promotion (meaningful is not pink cupcakes in international women's day.!!)

And of course, this is an opportunity to bring in humour and fun to your content - so give it a go and let me know how your organic marketing performs over the month of January.
